About this event
? Program Night: Understanding ELCI Breakers & Marine Shore Power Issues
Have you ever plugged into a newer marina pedestal only to immediately trip the dock breaker and wonder why? You are not alone.
Join Everett Yacht Club for an educational and practical evening discussing modern marine shore power systems, electrical safety, and common issues encountered with newer marina electrical infrastructure.
Topics may include:
How ELCI breakers work and why modern marinas are implementing them
Common causes of nuisance shore power trips and inverter installation considerations
Understanding grounding, leakage current, and “hot marina” concerns
The differing roles of galvanic isolators, isolation transformers, and onboard fault protection systems
Relevant concepts from American Boat and Yacht Council marine electrical standards will be referenced throughout the discussion, along with practical troubleshooting methods and real-world examples.
Whether you are trying to better understand your own vessel’s electrical system or simply want to learn more about evolving marina electrical standards, this will be a technical but approachable evening open to boaters of all experience levels. Questions and discussion are encouraged.
